EGKA National Junior Goju Ryu Karate Championships on Sunday, 18th October 2009

Northern Squad Training Days

Sensei Mike Smith has announced four squad training days for all the contenders entering the Junior National Championship later in October.

These free Saturday training sessions are from 09:45 to 11:30 on:
25th July;
22nd August;
26th September; and
10th October

Venue:

Hope College University
Liverpool Hope University Sports Centre
Taggart Avenue
Liverpool

We hope these squad training sessions will be well attended by the people they are arranged for.

A message from Sensei Mike Smith to the relevant Northern Dojos

It has been agreed that we should travel down on Saturday 17th October 2009.

All competitors who were placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any category including those in Team Kata can enter. It has been decided that if those who were placed cannot attend, then it is at that Dojo´s discretion to fill that place with a student of the same grade and age for that category.

If the Sensei can´t fill the place with their own students, then it will be passed back to me to try and fill it from another dojo.

Please note: 50 family rooms have been reserved.
40 rooms (sleeps 4)
10 rooms (sleeps 3)

I have negotiated a room rate of £53 per room, which is an excellent price for Bournemouth.

I have also booked two 49 seater coaches. Each coach seat is £13.00 return.

Rooms and coach seats will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Please note: The EGKA are heavily subsidising this event. There is no entry fee for competitors and they have provided half the cost of the coaches.

All dojos are expected to take part in some fund raising events, thus making the costs of going even cheaper!

Please give this event your usual support as it will only make your dojo and our association even stronger!

All relevant information must be received before 28th June 2009.

Any queries: Please email or telephone me on 07878 276 820.

A message from Ralph Elliott-King to the relevant Southern Dojos

Sensei Gary has provided me with a list of 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings from April´s Southern competition. Based on these results I have been able to compile and circulate an invitation spreadsheet to the relevant southern Dojos for them to confirm back whether the qualifying individuals wish to participate in the Nationals Competition in October. It has been decided that if those who were placed cannot attend, then it is at that Dojo´s discretion to fill that place with a student of the same grade and age for that category.

Please reply back before Sunday, 28th June 2009.

If the Sensei can´t fill the place with their own students, then it will fall back to me to invite another dojo to fill the vacant place.

I don´t face the same organisational nightmare of arranging coaches and hotels as Sensei Mike Smith does – well at least not until next year when the south will go north to Liverpool. Nonetheless, Sensei Ernie and I still have the task of collating all the entrants and constructing the draw.

So please start setting the scene and discover the level of interest amongst your qualifying students for attending the Nationals. As Sensei Mike points out above, the EGKA are heavily subsidising this important competition. With no entry fees to find, we expect to see an enthusiastic turn out from the southern contingent on the day.

I know it is early days, but can those referees and helpers that attended either regional event please confirm their availability for 18th October 2009 direct to me by email or telephone me on 079 1234 1549.

We need 16 corner judges, 8 mat referees, 4 scoring machine operators, 4 scoring table assistants and 4 competitor organisers.

Ralph Elliott-King
